Absolutely. After a while you begin to romanticise your own self-destruction because it’s the only thing you know. It’s almost comforting in its familiarity. That’s why Poe wrote “And so being young and dipped in folly / I fell in love with melancholy.” And why Elliott Smith sung “Do you miss me Miss Misery like you say you do?”.
